5 Steps to Plan a Digital Marketing Strategy

So, you want to know more about getting the best from a digital marketing campaign?

Here are five easy steps to make sure your digital marketing campaign management is giving you the results you need.

Develop Your Brand

You need to have a brand that is instantly recognisable, from the colours and designs of your logo and brand’s image to the tone and personality that you want to convey.

Depending on the business, some brands might want to keep a corporate professional image that is quite formal, whereas other brands might want the audience to see a business that is vibrant and full of fun.

The colours and tone will reflect the mood you want to convey.

Grow Your Audience

Once you’ve decided on your target audience you need to work out how to reach them and how to deliver a message to them that they will respond to.

You might decide to go to a trade show or exhibition, or do some advertising in print or digital or get a really great social campaign going with content on different platforms.

Identifying influencers to promote your brand to their followers is a great way of getting some word-of-mouth referrals and recommendations.

Create Great Content

You need to be creating lots of great fresh content on a regular basis to make your audience take notice of you and make sure that they don’t forget your brand or turn to a competitor.

Getting the balance right for your content between something that encourages engagement and something that is actually more of a sales pitch is a fine art, and it’s important to work out a strategy so you can monitor and measure success.

You should identify clear calls to action, and by checking click-through rates or engagement rates, how long users watched your video clip and where they turned away, you should be able to make sure that the content is always tweaked to focus on things that seemed to get people interested.

Encourage Engagement

Remember that when you’re creating content you want to get your audience engaged.

People like to think their voice is heard and their opinions count. Feedback from your audience will help you improve not only your campaigns but your products and services.

Think about creating content that invites a response but make it quick and easy.

A short survey or poll could work – maybe incentivise the response with a chance to win.

This is a great way of collecting email addresses to grow your audience too.

Get Data-Driven Results

When you’re creating your content, consider that you will be analysing results to get feedback to improve your campaigns and to work out what your audience responds to.

Build in teasers with links to find out more or give options for people to click on.

You might find that given a, b or c options, the majority all choose the same one, even without any prompt – then you know that’s the most popular choice.
